Pilates with Helen

About Helen

I fell in love with Pilates 15 years ago and have practised and had the pleasure to be taught and mentored by some amazing teachers ever since. I qualified with my Specialist Diploma in Advanced Pilates in 2016. In addition I am fully qualified, classically & Body Control Pilates trained teacher, CIMSPA (previously REPs) Certified and fully Insured instructor, let me share my passion for this incredible, life enhancing discipline, and help you to recognise & use the full potential of and lengthen and strengthen your body in good controlled movement patterns. (You can see the full list of my qualifications on my website helenpilates.com on the About Me page).

Pilates can improve posture, strength, flexibility, breathing, control and concentration. The matwork exercises have a great attraction in that they need no special equipment and are particularly safe for those with back problems (and don’t forget that 95% of the UK population has, or has had, backache). Its consistent success rate in solving such problems has brought it to the attention of osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and homeopathic doctors.

I work with a wide variety of clients in different age groups and lifestyles; Pilates really is for everyone.

My teaching practice has evolved through my studies and qualifications with various Teaching bodies (BCP, Future Fit, Group X Training, F.I.T.T) in addition to being taught by some inspiring teachers and has become what it is today. I am still learning and continue to be inspired by teachers, my amazing Mentor and clients alike.

I CARE very much about what I do, about my clients, about MOVEMENT and HEALTH. I am PASSIONATE about Pilates and WELLBEING. I LOVE an organic FLOW and how the movement and BREATH are linked – bringing MIND & BODY together in HARMONY.

I work 1:1 matwork and *Reformer and in small group classes.

I look forward to welcoming you to class – open to all abilities. If we have not worked together before, I offer a free 20 minute Zoom chat so we can ‘meet’ and you can ask me any questions you may have. I would then like to work with you in a 1:1 session so I can assess your health and fitness, your postural type and discuss your fitness goals so you will get the most our of your practice. You may decide to book a course of 1:1s (10% discount for a block of 6) or group classes depending on your wants and needs.

1:1s allow us to work closely to reach your goals, whether you are just staring your Pilates journey or you would like to deepen you knowledge and further advance your practice.

* for Reformer 1:1s please email helen@helenpilates.com and we can discuss booking.

Group classes are small so I can focus on your needs and the groups are always friendly and welcoming. There are always adaptations, modifications, progressions in Pilates which allows for many of the the classes to be mixed ability – with everybody working from within their own body and seeing what they can achieve – no judgement, no competition. There is adjustment, achievement, strengthening, lengthening, aligning, breathing, centring, mindfulness, focus, control…oh the list of positive attribute Pilates

Synopsis

Pilates Mixed Ability\ Improvers | Tuesday 9.30am + Tuesday 1.45pm

My group classes are small, friendly and fun. I welcome everyone warmly and keep numbers small so I can focus on the clients. I warm the body up with a gentle flow and then we get down to the mats to work in various positions, supine (on your back), Side Lying, 4 point kneeling, Prone (lying on your front) and we take our joints through their respective movements, in doing so use and strengthen and tone the muscles, tendons and ligaments surrounding those joints, thus improving our general wellbeing. We challenge the relationship between stability and mobility. We encourage good, controlled, mindful movement – it is about quality, not quantity.
We may use props (the magic Circle/pilates ring, weights, therabands, blocks, Small Pilates balls and the spiky ball). And often we simply use our amazing body – which allows us to take our Pilates practice with us wherever we go!
I look forward to welcoming you to a class soon.
